The Third Mind variation artwork Of Any Nature Reprise.jpg

The Third Mind is a collaborative project comprising of music artists Jauge, Morris Cowan and OWLS alongside visual artist SnowSkull.

The project is influenced by the ‘cut-up’ technique (or découpé in French), a Dadaist literary technique where existing text is cut-up and rearranged to create a new output. Although this technique can be traced back to the 1920’s, the creation of ‘Consequences’ breathes new life into this format by overlaying the technique to an electronic music and visual arts partnership.

The name comes directly from this setup: 'Third' – relating to the three music artists involved ‘Mind’ - relating to Sleep / Walk / Listen and SnowSkull's artwork for the partnership.

The final stage sees the electronics peeled back to reveal the melodic essence of the Third Mind’s ‘Consequences’ in a reprise by noise folk five-piece, Of Any Nature. Recorded live under the railway arches in the dead-end small town they call home, watch this space for their debut EP due later in 2018.

With each artwork for the remix series I intended to change the elements in relation to the song. Colour was used within each variation to highlight the different moods and ambience, whilst shapes signified textures that we used in a similar way to how a producer would use stems.

“With the series of animations I produced for the remixes I aimed to fuse aspects SnowSkull’s work, in conjunction with the music. I intended to bring life to the music and artwork by creating a visual journey; a journey that reflects the processes of the music’s creation. The animations become more reactive to the music during its course, enhancing the emotions and feel of the music.”
